Your future, our mission
What we focus on ...
The National Center for Biomolecular Research is specialized in structural biology, genomics and proteomics (bio-omics). These are three key areas of molecular biology that focus on the study of the molecular components of living organisms.
Structural biology combines knowledge from chemistry, biochemistry, biology and biophysics to investigate the structure of biomolecules such as proteins, nucleic acids and carbohydrates and how their structures affect the biological functions of these molecules.
Genomics is the study of the complete genetic material of organisms, i.e. DNA, with the aim of understanding the structure and function of genes and how these genes contribute to the development, function and behaviour of organisms.
Proteomics focuses on the study of the complete set of proteins in an organism, the proteome namely, with the aim of understanding how proteins work together and how their functions interact.
What is it good for?
New findings in the fields of bio-omics and structural biology are important for the early diagnosis of many diseases. Understanding the molecular basis of biological processes is integral to the development of new drugs to provide targeted and effective treatments for a wide range of diseases. Therefore, research in these areas has already played and will continue to play an increasing role in improving the quality of human life. Other areas of application include the development of precision agriculture and breeding, forensic laboratories, molecular diagnostics and food quality control.
What do we offer ?
NCBR provides education for students at all levels of higher education, i.e. from undergraduate studies, to postgraduate studies, to doctoral programmes. In addition to theoretical training, active participation in research projects is an integral part of the studies. Students work in dynamic teams with international participation, which develops their skills in communication, expression and presentation in English. In teaching, we emphasize the development of students' analytical and critical thinking skills and guide them to work independently and with precision. Students have the opportunity to use cutting-edge structural and analytical instrumentation, including the ability to perform challenging computer simulations or analyses.

Overview of study options
-
I'm in high school
Are you interested in chemistry, biology, physics and even programming? You can work on interesting projects at our workplace as part of the Secondary Vocational School! While you work, you'll get to see our labs, measure on interesting instruments, or write programs that analyze bio-data and run calculations on supercomputers.
Students` Professional Activities
And if you still don't know where to direct your interest, you can try more serious work in more advanced projects in BIOSKOP or MjUNI, where you might even visit our workplace!
-
I'm finishing high school
Do you enjoy chemistry, biology and programming?
We offer you the opportunity to study Bioinformatics in the Bachelor of Biochemistry program! We will teach you how to describe (bio)molecules computationally, and how to design and implement methodologies for their study and processing. This is a modern and growing field with great applications.
