Diploma Thesis
The course of the DP defence
- presentation of the candidate's thesis results (10 min)
- public reading of the opinion of the DP supervisor
- public reading of the opinion of the DP opponent + his questions
- plenary discussion (questions)
Evaluation of the DP defence
When evaluating the DP defence by grade according to the Study Regulations, the Committee takes into account in particular the following factors:
- the proposed evaluation of the DP opponent
- the DP supervisor's evaluation proposal
- the level of presentation
- the level of the candidate's response to the opponent's questions and questions from the plenary discussion
Proposal for the evaluation of the candidate with an unsatisfactory grade
If the supervisor or the opponent proposes a failing grade (F) and if he/she does not have any clarifying questions for the candidate, the Chair of the Examination Board, after reading the evaluation, will select some (essential) comments and invite the candidate to comment on them.
If the committee grades the DP defence as unsatisfactory, the candidate is invited either to rewrite the thesis (formal lack of clarity, unsatisfactory structure, excessive spelling errors, etc., no additional experiments required) or to complete the thesis (additional experiments required). A make-up term will follow.
